Here’s today’s Final Jeopardy (in the category Landmarks) for Friday, September 27, 2024 (Season 41, Game 15):
At its dedication, Sen. John Sherman said, “Simple in form…it rises into the skies higher than any other work of human art”
(correct response beneath the contestants)
Today’s Jeopardy! contestants:
Kate Roesch, a data visualization developer from Indianapolis, Indiana |
Marianne McGowan, a writing professor from Framingham, Massachusetts |
Maddie Carwile, a healthcare program coordinator from New York, New York (1-day total: $11,700) |
Andy’s Pregame Thoughts:
We have a new champion in Maddie Carwile, who won last night over 3-day champion David Erb and strong challenger Alex Michev, thanks to an intelligently small wager in Final Jeopardy and a Triple Stumper in Final Jeopardy. Today, she defends for the first time against Marianne McGowan and Kate Roesch.

Correct response: What is the Washington Monument?

(The following write-up is original content and is copyright 2024 The Jeopardy! Fan. It may not be copied without linked attribution back to this page.)
The obelisk known as the Washington Monument was the world’s tallest structure from its opening in 1884 to the completion of the Eiffel Tower in Paris in 1889. John Sherman, who spoke at its 1884 opening, was the Senator who brought forth the resolution in the Senate in 1876 proposing that Congress direct the completion of the Monument; construction had stalled in the 1850s after the company that had originally funded the building of the obelisk ran out of money.
To me, the biggest clue in this Final is the “higher than any other work”—knowing that the Washington Monument was the tallest in the world. We’ll see today if any of the contestants pick up on it.
